Greg Dutton Elected National President of American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE)

Volkert, Inc. is pleased to announce that Greg T. Dutton, PE, has been elected the National President of the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE).

Mr. Dutton joined the Northeast Florida Section of ASHE in 2003 as a government employee at the encouragement of a manager who was very involved and who promoted DOT Engineers to participate. In 2007, while working as a Senior Engineer/Construction Project Manager for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), he was asked by the ASHE Northeast Florida Section to serve as their Regional Director. Service on the Section Board involved acting as a liaison between the Region and Section, planning activities with the officers and committee chairs to foster more involvement by members and students, increasing awareness of ASHE’s purpose and vision, raising funds for scholarships, providing industry information to customers, and reaching out to the community. Greg stays active in ASHE and has served in past leadership roles including his 2013 role as an ASHE National Director representing the SE Region and spent this past year as the ASHE National 1st Vice President. He has served on numerous committees including the Public Relations, National Conference, Regional Oversight, Executive, Budget/Audit, scanner, and Strategic Plan committees.

As a member and Regional director of the very active ASHE Northeast Florida Section, which has long been focused on promoting and advancing roadway transportation to engineering students from the University of North Florida (UNF), Greg was involved in events and activities in collaboration with UNF staff and students and many other ASHE members. A notable achievement during his tenure was the accreditation of ASHE with the Florida Board of Professional Engineers (FBPE) as an official provider of CEUs. This accreditation allowed members who attended technical programs at ASHE events to receive Professional Development Hour (PDH) credit toward their PE license renewal in Florida. The FBPE has since changed their requirements while ASHE continues to provide opportunities for licensed members to receive continuing education credit.

Mr. Dutton graduated from the University of Florida (UF) in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. He joined the Florida Department of Transportation as a Project Engineer, managing road and bridge construction projects. Greg is a graduate of the FDOT Leadership Academy and Project Engineer’s School. Some notable project involvement during his career as a roadway contract manager with FDOT include the Buckman Bridge Widening, Main Street Bridge Repair and Painting project prior to the Super Bowl in 1995, the I-10/I-95 Interchange, and the Fuller Warren Bridge Demolition. In 2007, Greg joined the private industry and opened an office in Jacksonville for a transportation consulting firm performing Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI). He now works for Volkert, Inc. out of Orlando on the I4 Ultimate project and with their Florida CEI operations.
