Volkert Snags Seat Among “TOP 100 U.S. Engineering Firms”
That’s what Mobile-based Volkert, Inc. accomplished by listing 94th in the 2017 Top 500 Design Firms, according to Engineering News-Record’s much-anticipated report, published today. The firm also ranked 67th in the country among “pure design” firms (i.e. focused on engineering only). These are the highest rankings in the firm’s history.
The 92-year-old employee-owned company, which is active in 20 states and the District of Columbia, generated $152.5 million in revenue last year.
Perry Hand, Volkert’s CEO and chairman, said the key to the firm’s success is no secret. “Technology and mobility enable more firms to compete in more markets than ever,” Hand noted. “In this environment, however, we still find that person-to-person marketing is the most effective way to build relationships. For Volkert, it is a real differentiator.”
Founded in 1925, the company has grown from its Southeastern roots to include a national and global client base. Today the infrastructure engineering firm serves state and federal agencies, local and municipal governments, private industry and select international clients.
“Volkert is committed to excelling in our core competencies of infrastructure, transportation, energy and water,” said Jerry Stump, the firm’s president and chief operating officer. “There’s never been a more exciting time to be in engineering; we truly have the opportunity before us to create the future of infrastructure.”
Volkert’s staff of more than 900 includes planners, multi-disciplinary engineers, construction engineers, environmental specialists, program/construction managers, real estate specialists and landscape architects.
