John G. Horn, PE was presented the 2006 Volkert & Associates Chairman’s Award at Volkert’s 2007 Annual Meeting of Officers and Managers in New Orleans.  The award is given annually to a Volkert associate in recognition of service to the firm.  Horn is a vice president and 18-year veteran of the company.  He has a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of South Alabama.

Horn is perhaps best known for his 2004 work in the recovery of the Interstate 10/Escambia Bay Bridge after Hurricane Ivan, and the 2005/2006 recovery of the Interstate 10/Twin Span Bridge across Lake Pontchartrain following Hurricane Katrina.  Horn managed the emergency damage assessments and repair efforts for both projects.  His leadership in quickly getting accurate bridge repair plans ready for bid contributed to both bridges being re-opened to traffic ahead of schedule.

In making the award, Volkert Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Keith King remarked, “John’s performance on the Twin Span Bridge recovery project is viewed as a major reason the Louisiana Department of Transportation awarded Volkert Construction Services the largest consultant contract in the department’s history in 2006.”
