Aviation Services

Since 1946, Volkert has provided design services for the construction of airports, including the development of new airport sites and upgrading and expanding existing airport facilities.  Our airport experience includes planning for both the airside and landside of airports in order to provide long-term plans for development that can be completed through “phased” construction. Volkert maintains a permanent staff of experienced engineers, planners, environmental specialists, surveyors, drafters, and construction inspection and management personnel who serve the complex needs of private clients, as well as city, county, and state airport authorities.  We can provide a full range of services that include engineering design, airport layout plans preparation, construction bid documents, reports, grant assistance, construction inspection services and construction management, consultation regarding FAA policies, procedures and administration, aviation activity forecasting, and preparation of Capital Improvement Plans.

Volkert staffs its airport projects with professionals who are familiar with construction costs in the area, aviation characteristics, environmental restrictions, weather, and other factors that affect airport planning, design, construction, and maintenance.  Project teams are formed to work on an assignment from the initial planning stage through the completion of construction and to continue the working relationship with the client even after the project is complete.  Volkert participates in all phases of the project sequence and provides continuity to all sequences of project management.

Volkert’s aviation assignments vary from the planning, design, and construction management of entire airport complexes including terminals, to site selection studies for major international airports, to the design of airport automobile parking facilities, to apron expansion, to runway and taxiway rehabilitation at both air carrier and small, general aviation airports. Volkert has designed many airfield lighting improvements.  We have worked on military airports, both national and international, and have experience in both civilian and military hanger development.
