Transportation Services
Transportation, travel via roads and bridges, is central to the
nation’s infrastructure; and Volkert & Associates, Inc., has
designed literally thousands of miles of roadways and bridges since 1925.
Our roadway design and engineering projects include major
interstate projects, both rural interstate and urban expressway; state and
county roads; interchange improvements; tunnels; and complex multilevel
interchanges. Our bridge
design projects include everything from small canal or stream crossings to
prestigious award-winning structures that span rivers, lakes, and bays.
Volkert’s transportation services are provided through two main
divisions, roadways and structures. However,
the task of completing a transportation artery goes far beyond the asphalt
or concrete facility on which the traveler passes. Drainage, utility location or relocation, right-of-way,
environmental impacts, landscaping, and a myriad of other factors are
involved in the successful completion of a roadway or bridge.
Volkert’s multi-disciplined staff includes utilities,
survey, environmental, and construction engineering inspection groups that
enable the firm to successfully complete all aspects of the design of
bridges, including steel and concrete structures for low and high-level
fixed spans and medium-level bascule bridge spans, complex
controlled-access expressways, interstate highways, rural highways, city
streets, railways, tunnels, toll roads, mass transit systems, and ITS
projects.
Often Volkert’s involvement in
a project begins with a feasibility or location study that includes
traffic and site analysis to determine the need and/or best location for a
new road or bridge. Volkert
provides structural inspection and bridge repair services, scour analysis
and design of countermeasures, and construction engineering inspection.
Often, our involvement in a project can span decades and involve initial
design and subsequent design for improvements/repairs on a roadway or
bridge. Our
transportation-related services are comprehensive and complete because, as
our wealth of related experience reflects, “transportation is our
business”. |
