Traffic Engineering Services

Volkert, Inc., has a full staff of traffic engineering professionals who enable us to perform a wide range of traffic engineering services.  An example of a service Volkert can provide is relocation studies that include analysis of lane requirements for mainline, ramps, collector and distributor roads, major city cross streets, points of access, and intersection types.

Volkert can assess the operational characteristics of alternate interchange configurations, including analysis of traffic volumes, capacity of existing streets, and consultation with owners of properties that may be affected by an interchange improvement.  Other services Volkert provides include analyzing signing, signing and signalization requirements and developing cost estimates.

Sometimes the needs of our clients are small; for example, a traffic impact assessment for a proposed commercial facility may consist of a traffic analysis of the effects that a truck route might have on vehicular circulation in the area.

Sometimes the needs of our clients may be very large; for example, a 25-mile-long study to decide whether to add two lanes to an existing facility or construct a totally new four-lane route to meet the needs of the traveling public.  A project of this size would include engineering studies of geometry, drainage, cost, benefits, and traffic analysis, as well as, an environmental assessment to determine wetland impacts, historical sites, hazardous materials sites, and other environmental concerns associated with both alternates.

Volkert has extensive experience in the preparation of traffic control plans.  Investments in transportation projects are well spent, and our staff of professionals makes sure that our clients' investments are spent well.
