Roadway Design Services

From brand new interstate highway facilities to widening and improving existing roadways and city streets to complex controlled-access expressways to improving the safety of an intersection, Volkert, Inc.'s team approach to roadway design revolves around our desire to use our wealth of transportation experience to satisfy our clients' needs by providing a quality product on time and within budget. Volkert’s accomplishments are a result of the daily involvement of senior management, a company-wide commitment to quality, and a dedicated staff of professionals who keep abreast of the latest technology and approaches to roadway design.

Our years of experience in roadway design have provided us with a unique and valuable asset - a vast resource of design details, guidelines, and cost estimate databases that can be drawn upon to determine the best possible approach and schedule for each project. We maintain a large, permanent staff of design professionals, so we have ample in-house resources for peer review and quality control.

Technicians, who are continually trained to use state-of-the-art software, support Volkert’s design professionals.  Computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) is accomplished using Bentley MicroStation, Intergraph, and AutoCad hardware and software, including programs such as INROADS, Geopak, IGRDs and IRAS-C.  Other PC software in use includes hydraulics, traffic analysis, geometrics, and other quantity calculation programs that import into CADD drawings.

Volkert’s roadway design services include traffic analysis and traffic control; plans preparation, including geometrics, signing, pavement marking, signalization, drainage and erosion control, lighting, and utilities; cost estimates; preparation of contracts and specifications; route surveying, and construction stakeout.   Volkert’s in-house staff of environmental scientists provides required environmental services.
