Volkert, Inc., can provide full Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) services for state and municipal clients who are interested in maximizing the efficiency of their highway and traffic signal systems. 

Volkert’s project team is familiar with the issues involved in planning an ITS program beginning with the federally mandated ITS Architecture.  The team can then move into implementing an ITS Master Plan and can provide the planning and technical elements required to develop that architecture, including identifying the ITS vision for transportation management, evaluating the existing traffic control conditions, reviewing current state ITS plans, developing ITS objectives addressing all key elements of the system, reviewing available technologies and strategies, reviewing and assisting in the preparation of deployment plans, preparing a benefit/cost matrix of potential ITS technologies and strategies, selecting preferred technologies and strategies, and developing a comprehensive phased implementation plan schedule.

Volkert has considerable experience in the inspection and implementation of multi-intersection solutions.  We have design experts who oversee the planning and integration of comprehensive signal systems, including video surveillance, weather monitoring and congestion monitoring with microwave sensors.  Our expertise includes evaluating the need for Roadway Weather information Systems (RWIS) and 511 Information Systems.  To further improve vehicle movement and safety, Volkert can design Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) Systems, Roadway Weather Information Systems (RWIS), Highway Advisory Radio Systems, and 511 Information Systems that can be interconnected to use critical weather, traffic, and emergency information; and we can link these sophisticated systems using state-of-the-art fiber optic cable wideband communications technology.
