Drainage Services
Final design for open and closed
drainage systems consists of calculating drainage areas, runoff time of
concentration, computing flows, sizing and setting profiles of proposed
drainage structures, and designing a site-specific erosion control plan. These and other tasks, such as writing easement descriptions,
preparing cost estimates and construction specifications, and assisting
clients in securing bids and awarding contracts, as well as, construction
inspection and preparation of “as built” drawings are all common for
Volkert’s drainage engineers.
Volkert, Inc., has
performed drainage design services that range from hydraulic studies of
large watersheds to the analysis of an existing open or closed drainage
system. The scope of work on
these projects has included the hydrologic and hydraulic evaluation of
existing streams or creeks to determine where inadequacies in the system
occur and the preparation of recommended conceptual designs to minimize
flooding and reduce erosion along the channel.
Analyses for drainage projects is
generally made for current and future flows and proposed designs are
developed for various scenarios; for example, with and without detention
ponds and replacing or keeping existing structures.
Drainage improvement selections are based on the best alternative
after evaluating right-of-way acquisition costs, construction costs, and
environmental impacts.
Volkert utilizes the latest versions of
computer software to perform drainage analysis. Our design specialists are supported by a team of CADD
operators, construction inspectors, right-of-way specialists,
specification writers, and cost estimators – all focused on customer
satisfaction, continuous improvement and continuing education to meet the
constantly changing needs of our clients.
