Bridge Design Services

Volkert, Inc.’s bridge design experience covers a wide range of bridge types, including steel and concrete structures for low and high-level fixed spans, long bridges over water, elevated urban interstate highways, and multilevel interchanges.  Volkert’s bridge designers are familiar with the requirements for bridges across navigable waterways, including required clearances, vessel impact design, and fender systems. The firm has received recognition for innovative concepts and the application of unique construction processes and has been the recipient of a number of state and national awards for bridge design.

As with all of our transportation services, Volkert’s involvement in bridge design often begins with a bridge feasibility study that includes alignment studies, environmental investigations, structural engineering, cost estimates, and traffic modeling to determine future traffic volumes.  Often, a computer rendering of the proposed bridge is prepared so that interested parties can see the structure set against the existing skyline. 

Additionally, Volkert’s bridge engineers are experienced in bridge repair design, including bridge rehabilitations and retrofits, crack repairs, and damage repairs on timber bridges, bascule bridges, concrete bridges, and steel box girders on interstates.

Volkert’s experience in bridge design leads naturally into bridge inspection services.  Volkert has an experienced staff of engineers and bridge inspectors who perform bridge inspections, load ratings, all phases of scour evaluations, and a wide variety of other bridge design related services.  Volkert has provided bridge inspections services since 1987.
