In support of
Volkert’s emphasis on professional training and licensure, Senior VP
Malcolm Beasley initiated the development of in-house training
opportunities for employees. The popular sessions are generally
noon-time, one-hour seminars. The effort quickly expanded to all
Volkert offices.
The leadership
and training committee was formed to facilitate and
coordinate the process company-wide. The committee, which has
members representing every Volkert office and division, adopted the
following mission statement:
“The objective
of the group is to lead the company’s effort in leadership and
training for our employees in order to provide the most professional
services available to our clients and produce the best product at
the most profitable rate without sacrificing quality. To share
information and provide personal development career path training so
that our employees can be effective leaders.”
Training
categories and a sample of the topics covered are:
●
Discipline Training:
transportation (roadway geometrics, quantity computations, capacity
analysis, roadway design, corridor studies, traffic studies, bridge
design, bridge inspection), survey field procedures and office
procedures, utilities, construction, environmental, aviation,
port/waterfront, GIS/mapping.
●

Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Microstation, AutoCAD, InRoads

professional licensing organizations.

Board of Professional Engineers.
Classes are made
available through web connections using a real-time, distance
learning process. Employees can participate online and by speaker
phone from other office locations. The classes are recorded and
placed on Volkert’s Intranet site along with handouts and PowerPoint
presentations used in the class. Class instructors are Volkert
employees who are expert in the topics being presented. |
