Margaret Hancken
Controller/Secretary

Margaret Hancken has 37 years experience with Volkert and is currently Controller/Secretary of the board of directors. Ms. Hancken is responsible for contracts and client billings for the company and has served as assistant administrative officer on projects for departments of transportation including Mobile County, the City of Mobile, and the states of Florida, and Louisiana. She is also responsible for initiating and maintaining Volkert’s corporate registration to do business in various states and for registering the firm with the appropriate professional boards in those states.

Ms. Hancken received the David G. Volkert Chairman’s Award in recognition of her contribution to the firm during 2001. She is the first woman to receive Volkert’s highest award. In presenting the award, Chairman, President and CEO Keith King noted Ms. Hancken’s contributions to the growth of the firm through her years of service and her dedication to the company.

Ms Hancken started her career with Volkert in 1969 as a clerk/typist in the accounting department. Her advancement through the years included positions as contract clerk, bookkeeper, assistant department head, and office manager.  In 1975 she was promoted to assistant secretary/treasurer and was named an officer in the firm. She was elected controller/secretary of the David Volkert & Associates, Inc. board of directors in 1981.
