Dennis C. Morrison, P.E.
Senior Vice President
Alexandria, Virginia

Chief Operating Officer - Mid Atlantic Region

Dennis Morrison served the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) for over 30 years (since 1977) before being named Chief Operating Officer for Volkert’s Mid Atlantic office in 2007. While at VDOT, Mr. Morrison oversaw the Northern Virginia District, which included over 4,000 miles of roads in the Fairfax, Arlington, Loudoun, and Prince William counties.

His accomplishments with VDOT included creating the first multi-modal liaison position among nine transportation districts to provide assistance to transit agencies, groups, and localities; creating a full-service operations team to manage emergency preparedness; and was instrumental in developing VDOT’s pilot program that closely tied land use projects with transportation planning projects in response to legislation passed by the 2006 General Assembly.

Prior to his position in Northern Virginia, Morrison was District Administrator for Staunton, Acting Hampton Roads District Construction Engineer, and the State Assistant Construction Engineer.

Mr. Morrison received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1976. He is married, has a daughter, and enjoys golf and fishing in his spare time.
