Dennis
Morrison served the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT)
for over 30 years (since 1977) before being named Chief
Operating Officer
for Volkert’s Mid Atlantic office in 2007. While at VDOT,
Mr. Morrison oversaw the Northern Virginia District, which
included over 4,000 miles of roads in the Fairfax, Arlington,
Loudoun, and Prince William counties.
His
accomplishments with VDOT included creating the first
multi-modal liaison position among nine transportation districts
to provide assistance to transit agencies, groups, and
localities; creating a full-service operations team to manage
emergency preparedness; and was instrumental in developing
VDOT’s pilot program that closely tied land use projects with
transportation planning projects in response to legislation
passed by the 2006 General Assembly.
Prior to his
position in Northern Virginia, Morrison was District
Administrator for Staunton, Acting Hampton Roads District
Construction Engineer, and the State Assistant Construction
Engineer.
Mr. Morrison
received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic
Institute and State University in 1976. He is married, has a
daughter, and enjoys golf and fishing in his spare time.
